The Protection mode in Email Security determines whether your emails are being automatically remediated or not. During the initial setup of Email Security, you chose between Active or Silent protection mode.
- Active Mode (Recommended): This mode automatically detects and remediates threats in real time. Suspicious emails are automatically removed from users' mailboxes. This is recommended for organizations ready for full automation and protection.

Silent Mode: Detects and logs threats, but no remediation actions are taken. This mode is intended for temporary evaluation purposes to test and compare with other email solutions without causing disruption. Detected threats will still be flagged and logged on the Incidents Log page, but no action will be taken on emails in users' mailboxes. The following features are not available when silent mode is selected:
- Email quarantine and digest emails
- Report Phishing
- Suspicious email banners
Note: If the site started on a trial for Email Security, the protection mode must be manually switched to Active Mode after purchasing the subscription for Email Security to begin protecting mailboxes.
Change protection mode
To change the protection mode:
- Go to Manage > Email Security.
- Select Settings > Protection Mode.
- Select your desired protection mode.
