This article provides instructions on how to generate a SAML trace using SAML-Tracer, a Chrome browser extension or Firefox browser add-on. SAML-Tracer is a tool for viewing SAML and WS-Federation messages sent through the browser during single sign-on (SSO) and single logout.
Download and Install
Go to the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Browser ADD-ONS site, download and install SAML-Tracer.
Service Provider (SP) Initiated
- Go to Nebula or OneView.
- Click on the SAML-Trace extension icon .
- This opens a SAML capture window. Move this window to the side or background.
- Sign in with your credentials
- Go to the SAML capture window.
- To verify a good SAML trace was captured, scroll through the text to find .
- Click on the Export button and make sure Mask Values is selected.
- Save the .json file to your computer.
Identity Provider (IdP) initiated
- Go to your SSO provider's test page.
- Click on the SAML-Trace extension icon .
- This opens a the SAML capture window. Move this window to the side or background.
- Sign in with your login credentials.
- Go to the SAML capture window.
- To verify a good SAML trace was captured, scroll through the text to find .
- Click on the Export button and make sure Mask Values is selected.
- Save the .json file to your computer.
